The Biggest Myth About Charcuterie Boards
Have you ever admired a beautiful charcuterie board and thought, "That must have cost a fortune!"?
It's a common assumption, but in my experience, it's one of the biggest myths about entertaining.
A charcuterie board looks beautiful because it's been put together thoughtfully.
We've just uploaded a new video on YouTube - The secret behind beautiful platters isn't what you think - where you can learn the art of putting together a stunning charcuterie board without an expensive price tag.

Here are a few ways to stretch your budget without sacrificing the finished result:
- Choose a couple of more expensive ingredients and position them to stand out. Don't hide them under other things. Add them as some of the last items so they aren't covered by other ingredients.
- Use everyday pantry items - the things you buy on special that you love and enjoy - e.g.: crackers, pretzels, popcorn, dried fruit and nuts. They all add interest, texture and variety without adding a lot to the cost.
- Add fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables. They are often the most colourful items on the board and are usually the least expensive - e.g.: Grapes, strawberries, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and of course fresh herbs for garnishing can make a huge visual impact.
- Create abundance with presentation. One of the easiest ways to make a board feel generous is by arranging the ingredients with intention. Fold and fan the meat and cheese slices, fill small gaps with nuts or berries, and vary the heights and textures across the board. It's often these little things that make a board look abundant rather than expensive.
- Think about the variety, not the quantity. Guests are usually more impressed by an interesting selection of items than by large quantities of the same thing. A mix of colours, flavours and textures creates a board that invites people to explore - and keeps every bite interesting!
Charcuterie Board Ideas.
One of my favourite things about creating charcuterie boards is proving that you don't need a gourmet deli budget to produce something beautiful. With a little planning and thoughtful presentation, simple ingredients can have just as much impact as premium ones.
I'd love to know what are some of your favourite affordable ingredients you always include on your charcuterie boards?
Happy entertaining,
